Kuala Lumpur "The Garden City Of Lights"

As a mining outpost 100 years ago, Kuala Lumpur is now the capital city of Malaysia, with a population of 1.5 million people. Despite all the recent development, Kuala Lumpur retains plenty of character - a fascinating mixture of old and new, with sky scrapers and temples, and a colourful scene of multi-racial activity, with Malay mosques, Chinese temples, Hindu temples, not to mention the impressive municipal buildings and shipshape British order.

In the middle of the 17th century, the miners and traders who first came in search of tin poled up the river where the Klang and Gombak rivers converge. The Gombak estuary was the highest point upstream that the miners could land their supplies for prospecting the tin of Ampang, which is a few kilometres further in land. The first arrivals of 87 to do so, unfortunately, fared badly, and within a month, 70 had died from malaria and other tropical diseases. But the tin they discovered in Ampang attracted More miners. Soon, the place boomed to become a brawling, noisy, violent town in the 1860's. It was imaginatively named Kuala Lumpur which means "Muddy Confluence" in Malay, for it's located at the meeting point of the Kelang and Gombak rivers.

Kuala Lumpur is a pot-pourri of multi-cultural experiences to offer its tourists. This capital city keeps with every definition of a modern, global city. It has practically everything under its skies, from iconic buildings to Nature resorts and bustling markets. Star hotels in KL compliment the diversity and class this city exhibits and guarantee that you will be more than satisfied during your stay in the wonder city of Kuala Lumpur.

Every visit to Kuala Lumpur probably begins with its most identified symbol, the iconic and impressive Petronas Twin Towers. Reaching up to 88 storeys high, this steel structure is one of the tallest buildings in the world, atop which one has an absolutely breathtaking view of the capital. Another skyscraper structure in Kuala Lumpur is the Menara KL tower. This telecommunication tower too has a viewing deck with a revolving restaurant at the top. But KL’s architecture isn’t all about contemporary attractions alone and it has its fair share of heritage structures reflecting its ancient culture. The Thean Hou temple is dedicated to the Goddess of the fishermen, Tian Hou. This majestic structure is built with a fusion of Chinese styles, a design that is impressive and enchanting. The Sultan Abdul Samad building, Kuala Lumpur Railway Station and the Independence Square are some of the must-visit buildings for all architecture lovers.
